Career Talks:

Hacking the Job Application Process
Presented by Kimber Amos

12:30 – 1:00 PM CT

In the current market, employers are receiving submissions from 300-3000 (yes, THREE THOUSAND) applicants per single posted tech or tech-adjacent role.

If you’re currently looking for a job, you’ve probably already figured out that your traditional job search methods are falling short. Stop by the Career Village at 12:30 for a brief talk about how to face challenges head on in the current market. I’ll cover job seeker frustrations like extended cycles, skills mismatches, and increased competition, while providing actionable strategies for success. Then I’ll dive into key topics like optimizing resumes for ATS systems with quantified achievements and preparing for technical interviews using some basic research methodologies. I’ll also briefly cover the STAR method to improve your answers to behavioral questions.

Although 70% of roles are filled through referrals before public posting, there are some actions you can take during the application process to improve your chances of landing your next great role.

Looking to help make a difference in the career of a fellow Cybersecurity Defender?

The Career Village is only possible thanks to the participation of volunteers. Give back to the cybersecurity community and meet with a participant and help review their resume, practice with a mock interview, or give general career advice. Volunteers are typically hiring managers and others in leadership positions with experience interviewing and selecting candidates for cybersecurity positions.
